A leading new energy battery manufacturer required a more reliable slitting solution for its newly developed high-nickel NCM material production.
Due to the material’s larger particle structure and high nickel content, the slitting process required excellent wear resistance, edge stability, and strict control of powder generation. Conventional slitting knives could only achieve a service life of 150,000-200,000 meters, which limited production efficiency and stability.
Challenge
The customer faced several challenges:
Faster knife wear caused by high-nickel NCM material characteristics;
Strict requirements for slitting surface quality and powder reduction;
Increased cutting load after process parameter optimization;
Frequent knife replacement affecting production efficiency.
A customized slitting knife solution was required to achieve longer knife life while maintaining cutting quality.
Solution
Our technical team conducted an on-site analysis covering equipment conditions, material characteristics, cutting parameters, and existing knife wear performance.
Based on the production requirements, we optimized the knife material solution and improved wear resistance and edge retention performance.
The customized slitting knives were designed to maintain stable cutting performance while meeting the customer’s low powder generation requirements.
Result
After production verification, the optimized slitting knives achieved:
Knife life increased from 150,000-200,000 meters to 400,000 meters
Key improvements:
Over 100% increase in knife service life;
Reduced knife replacement frequency and downtime;
Improved production stability;
Successfully supporting high-nickel NCM material manufacturing.
Summary
